Formula 18 Catamaran World Championships
1-8 July at Balatonfüred
With nearly 200 boats, world-class competitors, amazing action and an impressive view, the Groupama Garancia F18 Catamaran World Championship set for 1-8 July is the event of the year for watersports enthusiasts.
Local sponsors the Balatonfüred Yacht Club (BYC) and partner Fox Autorent say they helped bring the event to Hungary for the first time ever out of a passion for the sport.
"The world's best competitors will take part on the First Groupama Garancia Insurance Formula 18 World Championship of 2011. This is a moment of great pride and prestige for us that the Balatonfüred Yacht Club can organise such a major event," said Attila Nagy, president of the BYC. "The club was specifically requested by the Hungarian Formula 18 Class Association to take on the championship."
The world championship is guaranteed to be a crowd-pleasing event, Nagy contends: "F18s are twosome catamarans that move more dynamically in the water than their one-man counterparts. So those who visit the world championship will be part of an action-packed, energetic and exciting race. The WC will also be accompanied by other diverse and demanding events." Franck Cammas, who circumnavigated the globe in a catamaran, will be the special guest of the championship.
"Being an active sailor I'm also a loyal fan of Lake Balaton and the sport events that take place here. What would be more natural than to have a hand in the first inland Catamaran World Championship? We are honoured that we can organise it with the 144 year old Balatonfüred Yacht Club." said Wolfgang Bartesch, general manager of Fox Autorent.
